e-Humanities grant Maarten de Rijke

Together with colleagues from Utrecht University, Erasmus University Rotterdam, the University of Amsterdam, Eindhoven University of Technology and the Huygens Institute for the History of the Netherlands, computer scientist Maarten de Rijke has obtained a 2M euro grant for a five year project entitled “E-Humanities Approaches to Reference Cultures: The Emergence of the United States in Public Discourse in the Netherlands, 1890-1990.” The project uses search engine and text mining technologies to analyze the role of reference cultures in debates about social issues and collective identities, specifically examining the emergence of the United States in public discourse in the Netherlands during the twentieth century. It is funded within NWO’s Horizon program, which is aimed at methodological innovations in the humanities.
