Foundations of XML
Foundations of XML (FoX) is a 3-year EU-funded research project in which seven top computer science groups specialized in XML participate. The research will be focused on distributed, dynamic XML with embedded web services. Roughly 2/3 of the research is theoretical and the rest experimental and involving system building.
The UvA is responsible for the integration of navigational/structural queries and text search queries. The main research challenge is to deal with the uncertainty caused by methods from Information Retrieval, and the ranking of answers by relevance to a query.
