Moodgrapher — The London bombings

One of the interesting phenomena revealed by Moodgrapher is the effect of global events on the global mood: mass increase in the level of distress and sadness after terror attacks.

The plots below offer a snapshot of some of the moods LiveJournal's bloggers over a six day period, from July 5 to July 11, 2005. They show how negative moods such as "distressed", "enraged", "numb", "sad", "shocked", "worried" peak following the London bombings on Thursday July 7, 2005. Clearly positive moods such as "content", "excited", "happy", "satisfied" show significant drops on the same date. Notice, also, how the mood of LiveJournal's bloggers changes to "sympathy" after the initial sadness.
